1. Flickr and a Creative Commons License

I’m giving a presentation on the new features in Adobe Flash Professional CS5 and I’ve decided to go with a Scrabble theme. I don’t play Scrabble, but it’s a perfect way to show off some of the exciting new features in Flash, including TLF Text and round-trip Photoshop editing. The first step is to find a nice photo of Scrabble tiles.

Flickr is a powerful resource when looking for photos. What makes Flickr a favorite isn’t just the vast amount of photos available, it’s also the easy-to-use search function. The advanced search allows you to look through only Creative Commons-licensed photos. Simply click the checkboxes next to ‘Find content to use commercially’ and ‘Find content to modify, adapt, or build upon’. This allows you to use any of the photos without violating copyright laws.

There’s almost 2000 photos related to Scrabble and fall under the Creative Commons. It didn’t take long to find the perfect photo for my Flash CS5 presentation.
